This would cause it either not to fire at all or at the wrong time. Which if you know anything about timing, if it fires at the wrong time, it might as well not do it at all. Your golf cart has four strokes to make the engine run: intake, compression, ignition, and exhaust. The sparking of the coil is the ignition part of the four strokes. If it does not happen right after compression, the mixture of fuel and air in the cylinder will not be correct, and then the last step, combustion, cannot occur.
